History of HansenGroup

Founded in 1909, HansenGroup today is Northern Europe’s leading independent Fenestration specialist with turnover approaching 1 Billion DKK and 1000 employees.

It all actually started even before in 1899, when a young blacksmith, the 22 year old Hans Sørensen Hansen (HSH), moved to Lem – a small village on the west coast of Jutland in Denmark – where he started as a village smith.

In 1909 HSH finished the building of a new and bigger smithy, and then the business for real began and expanded quickly. HSH was a very energetic and inventive man and by 1929 he seized an opportunity to manufacture his first steel windows for a new dairy in Lem. By 1934, HSH with his two sons had registered a new window company – A/S Dansk Staalvindue Industri (DSI); the journey had started.

Kristian Hansen was born in 1908, and was the youngest of HSHs’ children. Following the Second World War in 1949, Kristian set up a new company by the name A/S H.S.Hansen Staalvinduefabrik; a name that continues to this very day. By 1959, he had started producing the first aluminium doors, windows and facades in Denmark.

Following the untimely death of Kristian in 1969, his 22 year old son Hans took control of the company. From his parents, Hans had acquired many life skills and attributes that would prove invaluable in future years; these included technical knowledge, quality control, humility, pride, boundless energy and the ability to find a good bargain.

It was the latter ability to find a good business bargain, that has enabled the HansenGroup to grow through organic and acquisital means over the last 35 years or so. From Hansen’s humble beginnings in Lem, today’s HansenGroup has a very active and effective sales, design, contracting and production network throughout its six main markets – Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, Germany and the United Kingdom., and sells its products, services and know-how throughout the world. During this time, the Group has developed its expertise in most aspects of fenestration, curtain walling, metal doors, fire resistance glazing, and glass processing to become a global partner in construction.

Therefore HansenGroup in its main markets today is considered to be the market leader in curtain wall, commercial windows, fire resistant and structural glazing. The progressive product range reflects the principles of minimalist Scandinavian design and high quality. This market position is underpinned by high performance doorsets in steel and aluminium for fire resistance, security and environmental control.

As a commitment to the future, HansenGroup is continuously investing in its own Centre of Excellence linked to local Technical Advisory Service (TAS) centre’s to drive standards, service and practices even higher, throughout their territories.
